They're part of a vehicle's suspension system. The term is actually tie rod.

Actually Tyrods is the name of a club, the members of which own roadsters, old classic restored cars, HOTRODS, and they meet regularly, they are car fanatics. You can look them up online. Type in "tyrods club" and you'll see many pictures of members and their prized vehicles, and you'll get information about where and how often they meet. Unless you have my grandpa's accent and you're talkin bout thyroids.
