I'm a highschool freshman currently in the middle of the 1rst quarter of 2nd semester. Unfortunately, my grades 1st semester were pretty abysmal (for reasons I'd rather not talk about) and have left me with a pathetic 3.0 GPA. I really, really want to do better, so that I can go to a very good university. I'm living in the U.S, and I go to a public school with a pretty good reputation. My 'dream' schools are Oxford University, University of London, and NYU; but considering my current academic record, they all look very out of reach. Is it possible that I can raise my GPA? I know I'm going to have to work very hard, but what should I do to make getting into any of these schools (especially Oxford, but that's probably pushing it..) possible?

Well, this is for a school assignment, so I need a quote to live by, either one said by someone, from a movie, or a proverb, and I'm sorry, someone I know is already doing "Life is like a box of chocolates" from Forest Gump. I'm thinking, "Dangit!" because I really wanted to do that one, though. But, anyway, all answers are appreiciated, but please don't give me a long list of like 30 quotes.

About two centuries ago, Benjamin Franklin showed that 1 teaspoon of oil would cover 0.5 acres of still water. If 1.0 x 10^4 m^2 = 2.47 acres and there is approximately 5cm^3 = 1 teaspoon, calculate the thickness of the layer of oil.

This is the equation:

-2.5(a+2a)=22.5

Ok so first I did this

-2.5(3a)=22.5 (combined 2a and a)

Then I did

22.5+-2.5 and I got 20 (added -2.5 to both sides)

3a= 20

Then I divided

and got 6.66666666... I rounded it to 7.

What's wrong with this?

(-2/5, 2/5) and (4/3, 2/3)

I'm supposed to find an equation of the line, but once I find the slope I know how to put the information into point-slope form. The issue i'm having is that I've never put found the change in y minus the change in x when x and y are fractions. In fact i've never divided fractions containing fractions before so i'm pretty confused with this...any explaination or illustration on finding the slope would be appreciated. Thanks.
