I learned that Red sky at night, sailors delight meant that it would be a good day ( the weather would be great which meant that when the saying came around that sailors would be sailing the next day) and Red sky at morning sailors warning meant that the days weather would be bad.

It's an old weather report (before radar).

If there was a red sky at night, there would be good weather the next day (and sailors could go out on the water).

If there was a red sky in the morning, it meant bad weather was coming (and sailors should stay home).

Red skies at night mean there is fair weather ahead. Red skies in the morning mean there is probably some type of storm brewing. I am not sure of the exact atmospheric conditions that might cause this or if it is true. Maybe it is just an old sailors observations.

it was once thought that a red sunset meant good weather next day; while correspondingly a red sunrise meant storm clouds and bad weather coming up
