What is it called when you define a word with itself?

Ex: run (verb): to run

I know you are not supposed to define a word with itself. But isn't there a term for that? I could have sworn that a former English teacher told me there was a word for it.

Today when i was at school we were assigned algebra homework and so i wrote the problems down on a piece of paper, but i left the book at school and now i don't know how to do them! we are learning about the distributive property and simplifying. these are the problems.
1. 16+4(x+5)
2. -11(2-2x)+4
3. 10-3(x-1)
4. 4+2(6y-2)+5y
5. 2(3x-2)+3(5y-1)
6. 5-(n+3)+3n
7. -3(6x-6)+2(9x-9)
8. 3(d+5)-3(3-d)
