ohhhhh man, man!!!!! i'm in AP US History, too!!!! well, i'm doin aight in that class so to give u da jist of it, the northern colonies were mostly shipping colonies that used the water to import and export goods. they made hella money on trade. the south obviously was the tobacco colonies and they made hella money off of tobacco, but the crop was land depleting so it used up their land and they just had to use their money to buy more. and the middle colonies, i believe, grew rice? maybe? idk.... but cheya.... that's all i know, but good luck wit that, tho.....

well, if you had money you could succeed. The protestant work ethic was a big deal for a reason. Those with money in the south created plantations. Those without money worked in smaller homesteads or for the plantations.

In middle America and the NE there was indentured servitude that allowed lower class immigrants get a new life. It wasn't an easy way, but it worked if you put your all in it and did it right.

Because of the small town mentality, low tax rates, and vast amounts of fertile land, if you knew how to live on it, you could bring yourself into prosperity.
