I know the definition of irony is when something happens that is opposite of what was expected. I don't think the following event is ironic necessarily, but I can't come up with a word that adequately describes it.
Here's the situation: recently, two police officers were killed while riding in a charity event for the widows and families of dead police officers.
Now, to me, rain on your wedding day IF you chose that location specifically because it never rains there is irony. Two people dying while riding bikes on a road can't really be totally unexpected.
And while it's tragic, so is a plane crash, or other loss of life. But in this case, they were killed while riding for dead officers! That puts a different spin on it, IMO. But is there a word or phrase or concept that adequately captures that?
