$220 +$60= $280 -15%= $238 + taxes,fees, and anything else they can soak you for, so probably about $300!

I made a mistake on the other answer. is $220.00 and $60.
I suppose it is a $220 suit and a $60 pair of slacks. This amount with a 15% discount is $238.00. The savings is of $42 .00 The 15% of 220 is 33, and the 15% of 60 is 9.
So,... $238.00 is the amount he paid.

Two separate calculations; first, 15% of $220 is 220 times .15 (15%=15/100) = $33. This means he paid 220-33=187.
The $60 slacks are treated the same way. 60 times .15=9. He paid 51 for them. He paid a total of 187 plus 51 = 238 for the total.
If you elect to add the two purchases together originally, 220+60=280. 15% of 280 is 280 times .15 = 42. From the 280, subtract 42 to get 238

Purchases = $220 + $60 = $280
Discount = 15%
Balance to be paid = 100% less 15% = 85%
$280 times 85% = $238
He paid $238

Too much... He should've went to Target...
$220+$60=$280
$280*(.15)=$42 (amount of discount)
$280-$42=$238

assuming you meant $60 slacks...
220+60 = 280 bucks
.85 * 280 = $238.00
Plus tax.
