The term Christian includes Catholics, the Orthodox, all Protestants, and some would also say Mormons (although that is controversial).

Protestants are Christians who belong to churches that broke away from the Catholic Church in the 16th century, or churches that broke away from earlier Protestant churches.

There is an astounding diversity and range of beliefs within Protestantism. Some are very conservative, some are very liberal.
