Ok well i pretty much kind of forgot how to do basic equations so yeah, if anyone would be able to at least tell me how to do the question that would be pretty good. Like add or subtract whatever and such.

Ok from the work sheet, here are 2 of the questions.

-3x-y= -5

19x+ 9y= 10

Thanks everyone, yeah :)

You can use the substitution method to get an answer for x and y. I'm not going to do your question, but I'll do one that is similar.

2x+y=10
10x+y=26

The substitution method means I need to figure out what either x or y is equal to with one equation, and then plug that answer into the second equation.

In this case, I can use the first equation to figure out fairly easily what y is = to... 2x+y=10... subtract 2x from both sides... y = 10-2x

Now plug that into the second equation, replacing y: 10x + (10-2x) =
Combine like terms and solve... 8x+10=26
subtract 10 from both sides... 8x=16
divide both sides by 8... x=2

Now plug your solution for x back into the y = 10-2x...
y=10 - 2(2)= 10-4 = 6
x=2; y=6

You'll want to use the substitution method, not the addition method.

These two are in a pair, so you use them together to find the answer.

First, you get Y by itself so you can use the substitution method.

-3x-y=-5

is the same thing as

-3x+5=y

which is what you get after you add 5 and y to both sides of the equation.

So then you plug that formula into the other equation and get:

19x+9(-3x+5)=10

and solve for X by first distributing the stuff in the parenthesis, and then getting all #s with the X on one side of the = and all normal numbers on the other.

I hope this helped.

I think this is right

- 3x-y=5
x-y= -5/3
x-y = -1 2/3
x= -1 2/3 +y

19x+9y=10
19x = 10 - 9y
x = (10 - 9y)/19
