I have a DVR cable box and am curious if the unit will turn itself on if it is shut down for the night but set to record a show during that time.

I'm wondering if there's a way to record programs on TV by using a DVR system, without going through Direct TV or Tivo or some paid service? In other words, in the old days when we'd set the VCR to record the game at 4pm, come home and it's on tape for you. Is there a way to do that now? . . .without tapes (or DVD's)?

I downloaded videos from youtube, converted the vids to MPEG-1 (for VCD) but only the first video on my created disc works, after the first one has played the rest of the disc just freezes. As a result I have wasted numerous discs to figure this problem out! The finished VCD always shows a complete 'error free' burn and all videos on disc have copied sucessfully but like I said only the first video plays. Would anyone happen to have any info with regard to this problem as its driving me mad!
Thankyou.

I purchased a DVD recorder with a hard drive a couple of years ago and I love it. The only thing I don't love is that my hard drive keeps getting full because I save so much stuff.

I've been considering getting a new one with a bigger hard drive and my fiance told me that you can't find them anymore in the stores. I didn't believe him but when we looked at Circuit City, we didn't see any. Are they becoming obsolete? If they are, I don't understand why because they are great. I would think everyone would want one.

I have a settelight receiver working on one room. And I want to know what channel does my tv in another room view the same picture. I have only one reciever. But I know there is a channel I can watch the same picture as I do in the room with a reciever.
I have a coax out put in both rooms, and all hooked up to my settelight.

Please let me know the channel.
I have my tv set on cable instead of antenna, because that channel must be over 69.

I want to replace my old crappy VCR with a digital video recorder, one where I can record to a hard drive, and then watch from that hard drive. I *do not* want to pay subscription fees (ie, TiVo, et al.). I don't even need a DVD recorder- I just want to "tape" certain shows and be able to watch them. If it has to have a DVD recorder bundled in, I don't mind- I just wouldn't use it.

I've been looking around, but all the documentation is a little sketchy- I can't determine if some of these devices (like the Philips DVDR3575H/37) actually *need* you to use DVDs, or if you can simply use the built-in HDD to record and watch shows.

Someone a little more knowledgeable please help!

I am trying to record an NTSC video onto a multi region DVD recorder, but I get lines across the bottom on playback? When I play the video on my VCR, there are no lines, it's only when I record. My VCR will play NTSC no problem and my DVD will play anything. Help please?
