TiVO & DVRs

I have a comcast digital box and a cable ready TV. We tried the splitter and ab switch but that just sends the cable feed past the DVR so we can only do basic cable through the TV. I need the option to do both. Any sugguetions? Please help

also in the folder with the foriegn movie there was a SRT file.....when i erased no files and played the movie in realplayer on the computer, it had the subtitles....when i erased the srt file and played it again, the subtitles were gone....theoretically, if i add the srt file to the pocketdish digital media player, the subtitles SHOULD show up...correct? i just have a feeling that the pocketdish player doesnt read all the files like a computer does....they're two seperate files, i dont even click on the srt file on the computer, just the .avi file to open it.....will the pocketdish know to put the two together?

I've heard Sony's are noisy, but how can that be as there are only electronics in that little box. I've had a 'Thompson' one since freeview was rolled out, but now want a good cheap one for bedroom.

I am trying to use my friends extra directv hd box and when I set it up, it will scan for local channels and locks them in, however it won't display them. Instead, it displays the subscriber # and tells me the card is not active. Is there a way around this?

I recorded a DVD from a VCR with a SONY RDX-VX530 DVD Video Cassette Recorder/ DVD Recorder.

I format the DVD as VIDEO or VR and then finalize them.
I used DVD +R/W and/or -R/W CD's

The DVD will play back on on my Sony recorder and Window Media Player on my computer. They will not play on DVD players of several of my friends . However they have no trouble with commercial DVD's.
What kind of discs and formats do commercial DVD's use?
Any ideas?

I have an LG dvd recorder RH7500,with 80GB hard drive, and have had consistent problems copying from the hard drive to a disc.It just won't initialize the disc for some reason,so I end up filling up the hard drive with stuff I want to put onto discs,and then i'm stuck and have to delete half of it.We have tried cleaning the heads with limited success.Has anyone else had any problems or any ideas how to sort out the problem?
thanks very much .I can't actually burn any films onto the disc as the disc won't initialize.That's where the problem lies.I have tried all different brands but no luck.It's unfortunately not recognizing any blank discs at all.

I have Comast DVR. Sometimes when I go to look at the list of recorded programs, when i highlight some programs, the thing goes nuts and the screen starts flashing like crazy. If I hit the up or down key and highlight another show, it displays normally. It only does this with some shows. What can cause this and can I do anything about it?

I just got a new DVD recorder/player, but the problem is, it won't record because it doesn't find the channels. I have a TV that has EXT 1, EXT 2, Ant B, and ANT A. For example, in the back of the TV, there is input for EXT 1 & 2, so If I hook up a game system to EXT 2, it plays on that one. So I can have two systems hooked up at most, to EXT 1 and 2. But the recorder, I'm guessing, only tries to find channels on the EXT it is hooked up to, not ANT A. I need to solve this! So I can record, of course.

I have basic local digital channels coming from a coaxl cable line thats split from my cable modem. MY TV tuner detects many many channels including HD locals and many other digital free channels. But when i hook it up to VIP622 it finds nothing in every mode I try. My friend has over the air and it works fine. The pricks at customer service said that the DVR wont record locals anyway, which is 100% not true, they have no idea what they are talking about there.

The manual clearly says you can hook up cable or OTA for locals.

Anyway, anybody out there have this working for them?
