I have three DVD players. Two are downstairs and one is upstairs. The two which are downstairs are the newest ones (about two years old), but they won't play ANY DVDs while the older one will. However, they will play audio CDs. I read in a forum that such a thing can be caused from the laser diode being defective (from dropping, mishandling, or poor manufacturing). However, I have never mishandled or dropped them. Likewise, they worked up until about two weeks ago. Oddly enough, they worked until I got Adelphia cable. I know that everything is connected correctly. I am very good at connecting stuff like that, as I do it for people who have gotten satellite and/or cable (when the ignorant installers get it wrong because they don't know how to connect the boxes/receivers to multilple items. Is there any way that the cable has something to do with the DVD players not working? I disconnected cable, but they still won't work. Could the cable have somehow caused a defect?

Say they give off the same light as a 100 watt light, but only use 40 watts to do it. Is it safe to use these bulbs in lamps that say "do not exceed 60 watts" in this lamp socket? I think it is the heat given off which is the reason they limit you to 60 watts, but not sure. I could use the extra lumens, but don't want to burn the house down either. Is it ok to use these fluorescent bulbs to produce more light, without worrying about this 60 watt limit?

When I hit the eject button, nothing happens but the first time I did it I heard a brief screeching sound. I tried unplugging the TV, then reconnecting and hitting the eject button. Result: more screeching sounds. What I found online seems to refer to stand alone VHS machines and involves some disassembly. Help!

I just bought a dvd player for my car. I just realized that it doesn't have a battery to it but instead takes power from either a cigarette lighter or regular outlet.
When using the car's cigratte lighter all the time is it okay for the car? Does it hurt it to always use it? And can you use the radio and other things and have it not be a problem?

Ever since we bought the Bosch Exxcel refrigerator it has made a loud click or tap noise every two hours or so. What can this be? it isn't jammed close to the wall but has a decent gap. I expect it may be the cooling system kicking in but it can make you jump late at night if the house os quiet.

Two speaker wires got crossed and two small puffs of smoke came out accompanied with a poof! The receiver is an Onkyo HTR-500 and is a decent receiver but maybe not audiophile quality. Should I pay someone to have this repaired or trash it?. What could have blown? What would a rough estimate be , on repairs? Anything you can tell me will be helpful. Feel free to contact me outside of this forum at jjck2727@yahoo.com to discuss further. Thanks for the help........John
