When I hit the eject button, nothing happens but the first time I did it I heard a brief screeching sound. I tried unplugging the TV, then reconnecting and hitting the eject button. Result: more screeching sounds. What I found online seems to refer to stand alone VHS machines and involves some disassembly. Help!

I have had this problem and I use a butter knife and fiddle with the cassette up and down and move it around push abit on it and try to free it that way. Sometimes it takes longer than others. In a worse case you might break the tape because usually it is the ribbon of the tape that is stuck on something inside. Keep at it and you might surprise yourself... otherwise...Hmmmmmm?

Here's the safest way:

Unplug the TV and let it sit for a week to discharge the high voltage. Next remove the lower assemble (the VCR deck) from the plastic. Inspect why the tape is stuck. If it's not serious, get one of those big cell batteries and some wires and carefully add power to the motor that handles the tape casket. This should slowly eject the the tape. Finally, reassemble safely.
