Go to www.slysoft.com and download AnyDVD and Clone DVD.
AnyDVD is regularly updated to keep up with Sony's attempts to encrypt it's DVDs. I've just backed up my Da Vinci Code disc and it's full of encryption, such as Puppetlock, fake files, unreadable sectors and all sorts. AnyDVD laughed in Sony's face!!!
Clone DVD will compress the disc to fit on a blank 4.7gb. With this you can also remove unwanted languages to improve the final quality.
These are both 21 day, fully working, trial versions but are well worth the money to buy a license once expired. You get life-time updates too.

Why don't you wait until they show the film on Sky or Tv and then record it. You may be able to copy it to Video if you play the Dvd and record from the Video recorder, must be worth a try. Wondering why you want to make a copy when you have the original.

alcohol 120% does the trick
however to get the image to fit on dvd-r (most images are bigger than the disk size) you need to use another 3rd party compression tool. just use dvd shrink
