I just bought a dvd player for my car. I just realized that it doesn't have a battery to it but instead takes power from either a cigarette lighter or regular outlet.
When using the car's cigratte lighter all the time is it okay for the car? Does it hurt it to always use it? And can you use the radio and other things and have it not be a problem?

If your going to use your DVD player regularly, it might be best t wire it (via a fuse) directly to the battery. Its not hard and it will mean you won't have a wire running from the cigarette lighter.
Why didn't you buy a stereo with a DVD player built in? Would of saved you a lot of hassle.

I imagine the power the DVD player takes will be trivial compared to the power you use for your car's lights/stereo etc....

ok - you don't run all the cars lights all the time.. but it should be happy if you did, so an extra few watts being used for a DVD player shouldn't cause any issues.

Don't worry about it

Yes it is OK to always use the cigarette lighter for this use. It will not be a problem to use the radio and other things either, within reason.

Shouldn't be a problem, I have a 4 socket extension in my car so that I can run more than one thing at a time, ie charge m phone, run a sat nav, and a flashing amber light on the roof (when out on site)

It should not cause a problem. It s just the same as using in car phone chargers. Just remember to unplug it when the car is not runing as it will drain the battery.

It is not a problem on newer cars - however older cars might have a problem as the alternator is not designed to run as much power through as can be required!
so its okay on newer cars
and could drain the battery on older cars!
