Ever since we bought the Bosch Exxcel refrigerator it has made a loud click or tap noise every two hours or so. What can this be? it isn't jammed close to the wall but has a decent gap. I expect it may be the cooling system kicking in but it can make you jump late at night if the house os quiet.

There is a timer for the heaters in your freezer, the heaters are a high current draw, so to make it cheap and reliable there is a mechanical switch that rotates powered by a small motor. During the defrost cycle, a click is heard when the contacts are engaged and again when disengaged. Also sparks, but the housing is opaque, so you won't see the flashes.

If its a frost free, it may be that it is going into a defrost mode. Ours does it routinely.
