Two months ago I renewed my DSL service with AT & T at a reduced rate. Recently, I've been considering switching to VoIP because of better service & features at a significantly reduced rate as compared to AT & T's current charges. However, after calling AT & T to disconnect my land line service I learned that my DSL charge would be $49.99 per month for 6 months then $54.99 thereafter. Currently, I'm paying $14.99 for DSl with AT & T. I'm stuck with this outrageous charge by AT & T if I decide to discontinue their land line phone and continue with DSL. The $54.99 charge after 6 months is forever. Apparently, AT & T must think most consumers are stupid to put up with this type almost monoplizing FREE-TRADE!!

Help with this problem?? Thanks.

The phone company said it had corrected the problem. It didn't.

I recently moved to a apt. complex and transfered my old telephone number to my new home. Several times now I have noticed a "line in Use" message. So I pick up my telephone and I have either directly heard people talking, and they abruptly hang up or they hear me pick up, and I hear them hang up.

One time, I was in the middle of a telephone conversation, and I heard what sounded like someone picking up a extension at my home. Then my telephone call was disconnected. I called the person I was speaking to back, they heard it too and it wasn't from their end.

I have no other extension at my home, it wasn't my computer (I have cable modem). The telephone company has been out twice and says wires are not crossed. Which I didn't think they were, cause most people talk when lines are crossed & try to figure out what's going on. Who ever is doing this doesn't want me to know about their using or just listening to my telephone line.

Is this a neighbor or what?

When you call a # and you receive this message (accompanied by no ring at all), what does it mean?:

"We're sorry, your call did not go through. Please try your call again later."

What causes this? I can think of several things. But I know that sometimes the specific recording you hear gives away the cause.

Basically my bf has two phone #'s, one on his cell and one at his house. The house phone bill is shared with his roommate/cousin who hardly ever works. So all the bills fall on my bf most of the time. Oh yeah, and his cousin borderline hates me. So I'm thinking it's one of two things:

1) His cousin blocked my # from the phone, or
2) My bf decided not to pay the bill because he has his own phone and his cousin isn't paying his share.

I can just ask my bf later, but I'm really curious. So I wondered if anyone here might know... Thanks!

Luckily, I have a service on my landline phone that will have the name of the facility trying to contact me, even if it's a 800 number/private number...it's very rare for me to get a call without my caller ID recognizing who the caller is. Today I recieved a number with a 702 area code, but it said "Card Services" so I didn't want to answer it. I tried calling it from my cell phone (since I have the option to hide my number when calling people I don't want to call me back) just to see who exactly it was, and the operator came on. "Sorry, your call can not be completed at this time. Please try your call again later." How does this happen? I called the number back no more then 2 minutes after they called me. I work in directory assistance, and I thought I knew "phone dilemmas" pretty well. I guess not. Anyone know?
