how can i set my phone so that my phone number will not be displayed in others mobile whom i call?

i got a call in my cell. but my cell does not display any phone number against this call.when this call came,my cell screen display "private number".but there was no phone number against this call.also i could not make any call against this call.how is it possible

There is setting on your cell to restrict your number when dialling the recipient will only see "call" or "withheld".
when you receive private call or similar it is being routed usually through an organisation with a PABX switchboard i.e its 's a company

Private number happens when your international caller its being routed thru one of your local service providers.

Another way is to buy a private number. They're pretty expensive. Worse than buying "lucky numbers"
