I guess it depends on what you are after. I am thinking that you are talking about hardware/manufacturing and not service packages (as services packages available vary so much from location to location).
For business purposes, I don't see how you can wrong with the BlackBerry phones/pda's. Everyone seems to have them and companies support them. I have a Treo and my company will no longer allow me to access my e-mail via this BlackBerry competitor! Thus, I have a very expensive phone... my next piece of hardware will be a BlackBerry!
If you just need a phone, there seem to be two choices that are best: (1) Sony-Ericsson phones seem to get a lot of ravings from owners! (2) Nokia - lots of models and they sell well, which suggests to me that they must work well!

If I were you, I would write down what things you want on your phone (from most important to least important). This includes phone clarity, e-mail access, personal calendar, camera, memory, MP3 functionality, etc.
Then, go and look for phones that have the criteria highest on your list. Don't buy yet... just note down models you are think you might be interested in.
Take this listing of handsets home, and go to both ePinions.com and Consumer Reports... then use these websites to research consumer reviews on the models...
You do all this and you will very likely end up with what you need while ensuring that it is likely to have the minimum number of functional issues during the life of your handset.

Russ
