I am planning on getting my family a surround sound system for Christmas, but I have no clue what to look for or start with. We have a 53" Mitsubishi t.v. and I am looking for it to be in just one room. I would like to figure out what I need to hook it up to the t.v. and so forth. Or if their is just a single package that I could buy that has it all and would fit my specific t.v. Certain surround sound models and brands would be great. Thanks a lot!

I bought a Toshiba HD-A2 because I wanted to watch DVDs without the computer and be able to play at least one of the newer formats. I've thought about buying an HD movie disc just to see what the results would be on my current system, but I'm using the s-video and analog stereo outputs, and I'm reluctant to buy a disc with inaccessible audio and video.

Will there be analog "downconversions" I can enjoy from an HD disc, or should I just wait until I have digital equipment before I start buying HD discs?

Person selling it said that system has a warranty available because it's brand new and it is still in unopened box. I'm suspicious about warranty because he won the system on a contest and does not have proof of purchase. Could anybody tell me is there any warranty available for that product.

I was hoping to buy some USB speakers for my HP dv9000 laptop, but i was wondering if i could still get sound from the headphone and spdif jacks while the speakers are plugged in.

Also, if you know if the Altec Lansing XT1 speakers work with Conextant HD Audio that would be great.

I have an Aiwa Receiver AV-D57. The sales rep at Best Buy was trying to make me buy a new receiver b/c I just bought an HDTV. They said I would need a new receiver b/c the one I have doesn't have HDMI inputs. Is there some kind of adapter or converter that I can buy so that I can get the full potential sound out of my new TV w/out spending more money on a new receiver?

I'm a little confused! I bought a brand new HD TV with HDMI, I bought the HDMI cable and a Sanyo DVD player with HDMI/ DivX etc.
I connected the cable and it worked, it showed the DVD screen in HD, then I put in a new HD DVD film in and it doesn't recognise the disc.

Why have a HDMI cable if it can't play HD DVD discs? What is the difference between HDMI and HD DVD?

Due to some recent events in my life, I find myself with two kids and no DVD player. I'm not one to depend on tv or videos, but it would be nice to let them watch the occasional movies on an actual DVD player, as opposed to my computer.

There's only so much Spongebob I can take.

I don't have much money, so I was wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions of where I could look to find a good DVD player (preferably Panasonic, Sony, or some other respectable name brand) for a very low cost?

I don't need a lot of features or anything.
