Anything with Denon or Yamaha or Kenwood or Onkyo would be good.

Power used to be 'king', but not for HT. A good 70-100 watts per channel is plenty for a 5.1 system.

You would like HDMI inputs and outputs and analog up-conversion so your older equipment can connect, but you just run 1 HDMI cable to your TV.

Automatic speaker calibration has become a popular feature. Look for this.

Someone had a question a few days ago so I looked into the Yamaha RX-V661 receiver for $500. I was shocked at how many features this unit had. or the RX-V861 for about $800.

You should expect to pay between $500-$900 for budget-but-good receiver. $1,000 to $1,500 for solid mid-range.

accessories4less(dot)com there is excellent much less high priced receivers there. All you like is an hassle-free 2.a million stereo receiver. you will get a Onkyo TX-8255 for $119 which will paintings positive, for those varieties of audio equipment you wont want alot of capability in any respect, have confidence me. in case you wanna bypass great airborne dirt and dirt much less high priced seek for a sony stereo receiver yet they suck and arent good. be confident that sub connects with the aid of an RCA and is a powered sub, if its a passive sub that connects with the aid of speaker cord then you definately wont have the skill to purchase a receiver which will connect precise.
