in the Technics SA-104 stereo receiver, there is a system of little spinning things and string on pulleys that makes up the tuning system. how does it all go together?

To change the frequencies, analog stereos used "comb" capacitor (I think). A layer of thin metal plates was fixed and another layer of metal plates could move in/out to interleave between the first.

This was part of a circuit that changed the frequency. The Pulley arrangement was so the user could turn a frequency knob on the front of the unit but cause the plates to move in/out to change the station.
