Due to some recent events in my life, I find myself with two kids and no DVD player. I'm not one to depend on tv or videos, but it would be nice to let them watch the occasional movies on an actual DVD player, as opposed to my computer.

There's only so much Spongebob I can take.

I don't have much money, so I was wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions of where I could look to find a good DVD player (preferably Panasonic, Sony, or some other respectable name brand) for a very low cost?

I don't need a lot of features or anything.

90% of the DVD players do use a chip from a single company!!
So, buy the cheapest DVD player with component output and you have nothing to fear. You should be able to find a decent player for less than $40.

(As a reference, you can get a Toshiba HD DVD player for about $150!!)

Fortunately, DVD players have come WAY down in price. There are plenty of models under $100 that will work. Be warned that some of the cheaper models do have weird quirks that won't play some DVD's for some crazy reason.

See what they have at your local Best Buy, Circuit City, or Wal-Mart.

You can also take a look and see what's for sell on ebay. I personally sold a completely new DVD player on ebay. It was one that I got free but didn't need. I think the retail on mine was only about $40.

Do look for brand names that you know, like Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba, Magnavox, etc.
