I have an Aiwa Receiver AV-D57. The sales rep at Best Buy was trying to make me buy a new receiver b/c I just bought an HDTV. They said I would need a new receiver b/c the one I have doesn't have HDMI inputs. Is there some kind of adapter or converter that I can buy so that I can get the full potential sound out of my new TV w/out spending more money on a new receiver?

Smart guy that Best Buy salesman. I am sure Monster pays them good commisions.

As long as your existing Receiver has a digital input (s/pdif) it will work just fine with your TV and your other equipment.

Connect the video source to the TV via HDMI and then connect digital audio from the source to the AV Receiver.

150 years ago, they called them snake oil salesmen. Now they're called sales associates. The HDMI connector provides a single-connector avenue to avoid a mess of wire 'spaghetti' behind the componentry and also make an easier hookup. You do not NEED an HDMI connector to enjoy your audio. You can still use the conventional methods or the optical 5.1 hookup.

Buy a new receiver when YOU decide it's to your advantage. Don't let a con man, I mean salesman, try to sell you something that you don't need.

"It's not true that most salesmen don't know what they're talking about. It's just that most of what they know doesn't happen to be true."

HDMI is only useful for DVD to TV use....running it through the AMP is a method to tie the functions into one remote/sequenced system. I think they were hustling you to buy more than you need. The two things have really no connection. You just need to plug your audio out jacks into you amp and that is good enough.

No there is no adapter that I know of.

Just run HDMI to the TV, and optical to your Aiwi receiver.

NOTE: Do you have a source of HD for that new TV? Most people bring home the new TV and dont realize they need to upgrade their Sat or CATV service to get pictures similar to the showroom floor.
