Software - December 2007

I have Vista and XP on the same Hdd just Different partitions, but the programs i installed in Vista don't work in XP, i was just wondering is there anyway to get them to work without reinstalling them?

Im gonna be buying a used cody of windows vista in a couple days. The seller says its from london drugs and has been installed on his computer before and then uninstalled. For it to be installed, the cdkey obviously has already been used. A friend of mine said it would work as long as i have the cd key and password. So my question is, could i still install his used windows vista on my computer even though the cd key has already been used on his computer ? And also if it doesnt work, would i be able to call microsoft and ask for a new cdkey with no charge, or with charge ? and how much would it be.

please let me know, i would appreciate your help.

I want to be able to type information in cell A1 and have cells B1, C1, D1, auto fill in the other information for me. A better example is: John Doe is type by me in A1 field the other fields designated for his street address, city, and state appear in the other fields.

I am buying a computer after new yrs and have been looking at the choices of operating systems. I am a gamer so getting a mac is out plus there aint a place in my town that works on Macs anyways. I have a choice between windows Vista or Windows XP. Recently i have heard alot of thigns that have gotten me concerned that Vista aint ready yet and that for the time being i should stick with Windows XP. I am a gamer so being able to play games and do stuff on the internet is important to me(I am running Win 98 SE right now) When i get the new Computer which should it Have Windows XP or Vista?

a message pops up on my computer sometimes and says Genetic 32Win process something needs to be terminated...
or something along the lines of that


and it includes svchost.exe.

in my windows task manager it's taking up most of my cpu %

what is it svchost?
what does it do?
can i end it?

I have photoshop 7 and image ready. I want to learn how to create my own animation story starting from scratch, drawing characters, making scenes and objects, everything. For the past few years, I would buy the latest upgrade of my Mcafee virusscan and firewall and a friend of mine would uninstall my old version and install my new version. I bought it last year at Costco's for $39 plus tax. My friend is sick and not able to help me so when McAfee notified me that my software had expired, I for the first time renewed over line. The cost of renewal download plus a recovery disc to be mailed to me was $62. I thought that was awful high but am not sure of what other antivirus softwares are charging. Is there any advantages/disadvantage to doing it the download way vs buying the box at the store and installing. Mcafee does give you 30 days to cancel your order and they will refund your money. Thanks.

At my school, I'm allowed to download things (firefox, limewire) but when I try to run the installer, it says the system administrator has forbidden the action. The same thing happens when I install firefox on a flash drive and try to run the .exe from there. Is there any way to get around these restrictions?

Also, is there an easy to access Command Prompt that my school may not have blocked? Thank you.

Is it possible to reformat my computer with windows xp using the disc that came with the distribution of the new PC?

The disc is sort of bronze in color and it says that it's Windows xp Home Edition for distribution with a new PC only, but my computer is getting really weird so I wanted to reformat it, but I'm not sure if it's possible with this disc?
