AAARGH! This is annoying me. On my comp, I have Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Opera installed. I used Firefox most of the time, and I've been using it for quite a while now.

When I enter a LETTER in the web address, it literally takes like FIVE SECONDS for that visited web pages dropdown list to pop up.

I tried Control Panel > Internet Options > Clear History, but it clears the history in INTERNET EXPLORER, not Firefox. How do I delete the history in Firefox so that it saves me 5 secs of my life when I type in a web address?!!! HELP PLEASE!

Has anyone switched to TalkTalk for their telephone/Internet service and found it to be useless? Everyone I know who's gone to TalkTalk has repeated difficulties connecting to the Broadband Internet, sometimes it's hours or days before the connection is made. The phone line also has poor quality too, and dial-up Internet connections are often disconnected. We used to be with BT and had problems occasionally, but nothing like this. It's happening every day. The telephone exchange is about 3 miles away, surely that's not so far that it would affect the signal? The Broadband speed is 400kbps, but should be about 8mb.

so I went away for a week, and my cousion needed the computer for a week and I clearly told her to use the other computer. We have two of them. She mistakenly used the one with the subscribed antivirus. Now I come home and she tells me there are some problems with the computer, like pop ups runs slower than normal and when I looked at it, these things do happen indeed. Also seems like third party sites claiming they can remove the viruses and what not advertisements appear. I know she visited some porn sites. I keep getting messages from the old norton antivirus that virus has been repaired (velara, downloader etc.) and some viruses cannnot be removed as norton says. I am going to the store tomorrow to get norton internet security 2008 because it is what I can get at a good price. I am in a personal need to fix this problem. I am also getting messages like advertisements which seem to say remote computer is tracking. and things are showing on the desktop acting like windows security an

I'm having trouble with my Windows Explorer. For the last few days, every time I open my browser it just sits there blank and does nothing for about 10 minutes. After that, it loads up and everything seems to work OK. I downloaded Explorer 7 but it still does the same thing. I've scanned for viruses and none found. I've ran updates for Windows, I've shut off Norton, but nothing seems to help. Please Help!

I'm no expert, so bare with me please. (try not to confuse you, or myself)
***
Info:
i have a desk top PC on broadband
(not wireless or anything)
***
1. can other people on my street/area, use my internet connection if they are wireless? (or would i have to have wirless too)
***
2. If they can, how do i stop the thieving little b*****d's?
***
Reason:
I have always had pop ups telling me, the security had blocked something accessing something or other and all was fine.
Now i have ZoneAlarm on here, which i have choosen to see the info of what it is blocking.
Most of them are fine (just asking if i want to allow M/F or IE access the Internet) when i load up.
But
there is one in particular, that only happens at evening/night (about 20x) which roughly says:
'ZoneAlarm has blocked blah blah accessing the Internet'
and it gives this number 192.168.1.1

3. can someone please tell me what that is, if it is not someone else trying to use my connection.
***
Sorry for going on
Thanks in advance

For some reason, one day I opened up my Internet Explorer and it won't open, but it does open on a different browser such as AOL Internet Explorer, but I'd rather use Internet Explorer. Anyway, I ran a Network Diagnostics for Windows XP and it says

"Windows cannot connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer.

Check the firewall settings for the HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443), and FTP port (21)

You might need to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or the manufacturer of your firewall software."

What do I do?

I currently am on an 'up to 8Mb' tariff and have run tests on my own line that show my current download speed is only 1.63Mbps. Is there any way I can check to see what the actual speeds are for the area in which I live? I ask as some people have told me they are getting upwards of 6Mbps in the same area as me.

I am over my trial period for internet service with AOL, which only required me to connect a telephone cord between my computer and wall jack, for dial-up. Now ATT says in addition to signing up for internet service, I need to purchase a DSL modem to connect the internet. Why is this necessary? My computer has a connection for the dial-up. Is this not the same process? I really don't understand, the difference if any. I humbly request an informed response. Thank you

I currently have a Netgear DG834G and the orange light is constantly on the blink and I can get no connection or set up a wireless network. The only problem I can see is that the ADSL/Phone Cable's plastic thing that normally clicks into the modem is broken - does this affect the connectivity of my modem hence I can't get on the internet?? Any ideas?? I'm wondering if it's my modem or the cable. Thanks in advance for the help!!!!
