I currently have 4 ports for my computer for Ram and they look something like this ...

Port A: 1GB of RAM
Port B: 512MB of RAM
Port A: 1 GB of RAM
Port B: 512MB of RAM

The reason why I did this is because before I had 4 GB of RAM. I figured since my computer didn't have an updated BIOS which I looked everywhere for and couldn't find. I returned the 2GB of RAM and replaced it with my old ones; two 512 MB of RAM. But unfortunately the store owner only let me return one out of the two because I had bought it at a different day and the return day policy expired. My computer has Dual Channel. It means that I have to have the same type of ram in the same colored ports for it to work to properly and run efficiently. They're color coordinated, Green (a) Purple (b). Anyways, I'm wondering if it's safe to have both my 512MB of RAM in my computer while I have the 1GB of RAM installed. Or should it just be all 1 GB of RAM into all ports. So far it's working fine. But I'm worried it might...

Computer, keeps flickering on textures, most reasonably good graphics games, CSS, Guild wars etc?
help? the textures flicker, freeze game, black screen, normal game, flickering again, then crash. (it might not be the texture theres just random lines)

Someone said its to do with the graphics card not getting enough resources? Was he right?

i have a Radeon X700SE graphics card, I'm fairly sure its fully updated, etc

I'm trying to transfer some 1100 honeymoon pictures from CD to a new external hard drive. I've already transfered thousands of pics from my pc's hard drive to the external without issue, however when I try to copy them from the CD, it will copy most of them but then an error message pops up saying "can not copy DSCF0019: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)". If I stop and restart the copying after that picture it will go fine again, until it hits another one. Any ideas?

My son took the speakers off the back of my computer. He says his blew up and I never use the speakers anyways, but occasionally I do, so I decided to just get a new pair.
Are all speakers interchangeable or do I have to specifically buy speakers for a dell? How does it work?

i just bought a new computer and need to upgrade the graphics card so that i can play games because the computer came with the standard Intel graphics 950 (or whatever) and according to www.systemrequirementslab.com it really won't play anything that is new because of the shaders, MB, and stuff. i have already upgraded the power supply to 500watts. my question is is there really a differance between the GeForce 8400, 8500, and 8600 cards out there? yes, i know about higher core clock speed being better, higher memory interface, as well as the memory supposally being better, but is there really that much differance between the three?i'm not a hardcore gamer, i just want to play half-life, guild wars, halo, and some of the new games out there. i know that you can get both 8500 and 8600 in both 256 and 512, but would 8500-512 be the same as 8600-256?

Ok, soo my cousin helped me build my PC around a year ago, and he put in a motherboard with SLI capabilities, and now i want to take advantage of this... (nothing really went wrong with one...) but now i fried my graphics card >< from overuse i think... Word of Warcraft... one heck of a game, and soo i figured i could use a new graphics card anyways cuz i had a GeForce 6800 and thats pretty old. Anyway, I want to know if i can run two different graphics cards (from same company) on it or do the cards have to be the same.. i.e if i got a GeForce 8500 GT, and a 8600 GT, would that work. I have not bought new ones yet, but i found a (as in 1) 8500 for $60 (new) and a(as in 1) 8600 for $80 (new)

I am pretty much a noob and want to get into high-end gaming. i got Unreal-Tournament III for a present and it runs slow as crap on my computer. i thought getting geforce 8600gt would be a good idea since its one of the best graphic cards out there. the only problem is that i dont know if i can just install it on my computer and expect it to work or if i need to upgrade other hardware on my computer. Right now it says im running windows vista home basic, AMD anthlon 64 X2 Dual core processor 3600+, 896 MB ram and nvidia geforce 6150E. please help
Thanks

I bought a portable hard drive and it worked great with my XP laptop. Then, I plugged it into my other laptop, which uses Vista. One of the folders on the hard drive is named "My Documents" - it was fine with XP but then Vista changed the "My Documents" folder (on the external hard drive) to a "shortcut" file type and now clicking on that folder only opens "My Documents" on the computer it is plugged into.

I have tried changing the "target" and "location" under the folder's properties, but it only tells me this is not allowed.

Any suggestions for changing the folder type so it's no longer a shortcut folder type?

Or... any suggestions for accessing all the files on the portable hard drive other than clicking on this particular folder?

Thanks!

i think my kids put in a hub instead of a port on my computer now it wont work - is there a way to check and see if it can be fixed - or is there a place that i can send the whole stick and have a disc made of the photos on it - i am really upset about this whole situation - maybe its just out of kilter somehow - i tried to fix it by the sandisk site but for some reason my computer wont let me delete the files they tell me to take out to reinstall the usb stick - maybe thats not the right way to go anyway - or is it possible that the contacts are dirty and can they be cleaned - i have about 500 photos on it and would hate to lose them especially since i was just getting ready to transfer them to a new stick today

using the Nvidia control center.

PNY Nvidia Geforce 8600GT, GDDR 3, 512MB Ram

GPU Core Bus Speed: Stock 576 MHz; Custom OC'ed to 625 MHz

GPU Memory Bus Speed: 730 MHz: Custom OC'ed at 800 MHz

With those settings, I'm playing Crysis at Medium settings, and the highest the graphics card's temperature went was 72C; so those bus speeds are stable.

How much of an increase would one notice with that much increase in bus speeds?

So here's my setup

500W Antec power supply
AMD BE-2300 chip
ECS NFORCE6 motherboard
IDE controller PCI card
Four hard drives
Radeon 2600XT video card
2 GIGs of DDR2 800 memory (2 DIMMs)
Soundblaster Live (old card from 2001)

I installed 2 more GIGs of memory (2 DIMMs) and long story short, the system becomes unstable in Vista UNLESS I unistall the sound card.

Does anyone even want to try to explain this?
