I want to get a new video card for my PC. I am looking at a Nivida Ge Force 8600. It says it is SIL and PCI Express. I opened up my PC and found 2 white slots and a dark maybe brown slot open.

you mean SLI. Scalable Link Interface. This is a technology wherein you use two of the same nVidia graphics card to increase performance. You can find out what kind of slot you have by opening your computer and having a look. If near the bottom left hand corner you have a 4-or-so inch long (probably colored) slot, it's PCI-express. Shortish and white is PCI, and somewhere between the two in size is AGp. If it's a relatively new computer, there's a good chance it's PCI Express.

The 2 white slots, if their the same size are probably regular PCI And unless its an expensive motherboard you wont have 2 pci express slots. the brown one is AGP, so from that, your card would not work.

the white ones are pci and the brown is a agp. just buy an agp there almost as good. If you want a good place to get hardware look at OTVTECH.com.

the brown slot if it is long, is an agp slot. the brown slot is short about 2inchs long, then it is not an agp slot. find a 6800 agp. they run faster than the 8600.
