i know the average song is 3-5000 KB, what is the average KB for a movie that you ripped from your drive. The reason why im asking is i want to see how many movies i could get on my 4 GB micro drive.

it depends how you encode.

graphics & media lab video group did an assessment last year of the relative merits of the different formats. in terms of file size (smaller being better) this is how the formats shaped up.

1. MainConcept
2. x264 (with small lag)
3. VSS
4. Intel H.264
5. DivX (MPEG-4 ASP)

the mainconcept rip was only half the size of the divx rip with the same bitrate quality.

This means that if the divx rip is 700meg, the Mainconcept rip will be under 400 meg in size.

a free option is the x264 format which was about 60% the size of the divx rip.

Most movie rips are 700mb so as they fit 1 cd for playing on Divx:) player so you should get 5 on 4gb drive. Hope this helps.

if u convert it, u can get 3 1/2 movies at high quality. lower quality. u can get 8.
