I currently have 4 ports for my computer for Ram and they look something like this ...

Port A: 1GB of RAM
Port B: 512MB of RAM
Port A: 1 GB of RAM
Port B: 512MB of RAM

The reason why I did this is because before I had 4 GB of RAM. I figured since my computer didn't have an updated BIOS which I looked everywhere for and couldn't find. I returned the 2GB of RAM and replaced it with my old ones; two 512 MB of RAM. But unfortunately the store owner only let me return one out of the two because I had bought it at a different day and the return day policy expired. My computer has Dual Channel. It means that I have to have the same type of ram in the same colored ports for it to work to properly and run efficiently. They're color coordinated, Green (a) Purple (b). Anyways, I'm wondering if it's safe to have both my 512MB of RAM in my computer while I have the 1GB of RAM installed. Or should it just be all 1 GB of RAM into all ports. So far it's working fine. But I'm worried it might...

not work properly in the future and it may cause damage to my computer. It's useless to put the other 1GB of RAM in it. Because it will only run single channel. And it won't run as fast.

So technically I'm running about 3GB of RAM at the moment. If you guys could help me find a BIOS so that instead I can run 4GB of RAM instead of 3GB that would be so awesome. I had spent hours trying to find an update for my BIOS. But I can't find any. Anyways here's my BIOS info.

BIOS Type: Award

Award BIOS Type: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG

Award BIOS Message: (8 digit code; sorry can't put on here, for safety reasons) V1.23

System BIOS date: 05/12/05

Video BIOS date: 12/16/04

BIOS manufacturer: Phoenix Technologies Ltd.

And it suggests I update it. But I go to the BIOS manufacturer's site I can't find anything there that I can download so I can update this. This is such a pain in the ***. If anyone could help me that would be outstandingly great... Thank you.

Your RAM set up is just fine, actually too much. 1Gb is typically fine for XP and 2Gb for Vista. 4Gb is wasteful in a 32bit OS since about 750Mb will just sit useless in the memory hole.

Yeah that is perfectly safe.
Right now I have all 1 GB sticks but in the past I've had many different mixes. It's been fine to have different size RAM sticks for many years.
I have another machine that has a 1 GB stick and a 256 meg stick and that's it, works fine.

hi. in accordance to the area your computing device helps "512MB 533MHz single Channel DDR2 SDRAM , 1024MB 533MHz twin Channel DDR2 SDRAM , 1536MB 533MHz twin Channel DDR2 SDRAM , 2048MB 533MHz twin Channel DDR2 SDRAM." All are DDR2 so verify that's what you're utilising. if so then consistent with threat your device has a glitch. have you ever tried the two twin mode and single channel mode? the two could artwork yet try besides. no longer too plenty distinction in overall performance in maximum apps.
