ok so im almost posotive i have a virus on my comp even though i have mcafee and adaware it says i dont but i know i do. so i want to reformatt my laptop but i want to keep my pictures and music. will an external drive be best to transfer and clean my comp??

Hi there!

I'm currently considering getting some international penpals because I think that it would be neat to make some friends from around the world. Although e-mail is an option, I think that I'd prefer snail mail because it'd be more personal, since it's handwritten. However, I'm worried about possible identity theft.

If I only give my first name (in the letter, on the envelope, etc.), but still give my address so that I can get responses back, would this be okay? Or would I still be at risk for identity theft? I'm also planning to not mention any names in my letters (e.g. the names of where I work, volunteer, etc.), and only to print my name (not sign). Is this enough prevention?

I would like to download a secondary operating system that is free (i.e. with windows xp). I hear Linux is good. What is the best free version (obviously one version is Freespire).

I don't do a whole lot on the computer. It has 18.6 GB of space total, about 11 or 10 GB left. I listen to music generally.

same as above. For instance, say something goes bad in the laptop that a normal person cannot access through the little doors or whatever that for instance ram usually can. Will they actually go in, take apart the laptop, and replace parts like a video card, or even something like the keypad? Thanks!

P.S If they don't do this, is there anybody other than the laptop manufacturer that will do this?

I know nothing about wireless internet so my question may not be very clear. I have a desktop and a laptop and I have an ATT modem. I'm trying to add wireless internet to my laptop but keep the desktop hooked up the wires. Is there a way to hook a wireless router to the att modem. We just bought an HP laptop for our business... My hubby set it up and password protected it - and we had to restart it and now it says we cannot log on because our password is incorrect. We are using the SAME password that we set it up with - and it even had a "verify password" when we set it up.... is there any way to retrieve a lost password or reset the log on password? Thanks!!!

I figured it out a couple of months ago. You will need Firefox for this though. All you have to do is go to the person's page...on top on the browser click on "view" and then click on "page style...then click on "no style"...and there you have it. Now you can see friends that people think no one can see!!!....LMAO!

I just got windows vista and I was trying to reformat my hard drives. i placed the windows vista cd in the cd rom and setted my bio to boot from cd just like I did to reformat my hard drives when i had windows xp. but for windows vista they did not ask me to delete my existing partitions and to create new ones. they just ask to install the the windows. so is there something i didnt press or what? i don't want to overlap. i just want to delete the hard drives and install brand new ones. can someone help me?

Okay, here's the deal. I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows Vista Home Basic. I'm trying to put some CDs into my iTunes library, but whenever I put a disc in nothing happens. I can't burn CDs either, because iTunes doesn't seem to realize that I put a blank disc in. In my device manager, under the DVD/CD-ROM Drives list there are two icons, one that says "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4082N ATA Device" and another that says "NoteBurn Virtual_CD-RW SCSI CdRom Device". Both have little yellow exclamation marks. I tried updating the driver on the first one, but when I clicked "Automatically Search" it told me the driver was up to date, so no progress made. I'm not much of a techie, but I have a bit of common sense, so simple instructions to fix this problem would be really appreciated.
