Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me. I have just purchased an Acer TravelMate 3200 without an operating system. It came with the bootable disk and recovery disks(3). Its necessary I put Windows XP Pro on it.
I've yet to get the Windows XP Pro (as I only have a Compac Operating System CD disk handy with Microsoft Win XP Pro).
1/ Do I need to do anything before putting Windows XP on (ie run the recovery disk/s first)
2/ Could I use the Compac disk that has Micr Win XP Pro on it or is that a complete no no.

Totally new to this - any advice much appreciated

A garaunteed way to crash my PC. If it's installed, there's no way my PC will restart ... gets to "Your PC is starting up" and that's it. If I restore my PC to before SDS3, it'll startup just like a bought one but sooner or later Software Distribution Service 3.0 rears it's head.

What is it? Why does it re-install all the time? How do I get rid of it? do abuse sending it to me?

Is SPTD.sys involved? if so, same questions apply.

we have tried doing a restore back beyond the date this all happened and have even reinstalled windows xp but to no avail ! the lights on the modem are flashing, we have checked all the connections and abiut everything else we can think off - any help would be appreciated.

I am planning to buy a laptop and i have asked a few friends regarding the wireless internet connection that i can take and following are the choices that i arrived at.
1. I would need to buy a wireless router and get a WiFi connection which would work for a 50 metre radius (at my home i can use but cant go out)
2. I have to buy a wireless internet card that reliance offers ... this is basically a card that plugs in to my laptop and i can go anywhere (and i dont know how far this is reliable).
Is there any other way to get a wireless connection ? Also, I am not able to decide which one to opt for. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

i just got another geforce 8500 gt video card to install in my pc that i built. i have a pentuim d 3.4 gh dual core, 3 gigs of pc5300 ram, an asus sli motherboard. after i installed the other video card i started getting problems with my pc shutting down or giving me a blue screen of death before restarting. i thought that it might be the new video card so i uninstalled it and tried the one that i had installed originally. same thing happens! the pc just restarts when it goes into windows. i have also tried to reinstall windows but after rebooting into a fresh copy of windows xp it does the same thing. my power supply worked fine before trying to install the second video card so thats why i think i might have burnt it out somehow. the power supply was a 500w that had a bunch if connections. i think i might have gotten a power supply that doesn't support an sli setup. i later looked on the box of the power supply and it didn't say anything about being sli compatible.
