if the PC continues to keep connected, its likely that there is somethng wrong with your modem. If its cable, could be a signal problem coming into your house, call the cable company. If its DSL, could be a bad phone line, call the phone company.
If you are doing this wirelessly, make sure you are right by the wireless router and see if the same behavoir happens. Its possible you are too far away.

i had the same problem, when you reinstall windows xp you need to connect your modem to your computer, to do this you need to go to the settings and do something. just phone up customer services and tell them what happened and they'll talk through the steps you need to take.

you should have the software for the broadband you have there should be a check list of some type on the software(cd rom)do a manual test if that does not work try your dsl connection it could be faulty plug it directly into the phone line

my computers did that same thing yesterday,on the back of your modem unplug the power cord for 30 seconds.if you have a router do the same.then restart computer.that's what my provider told me to do and it worked.good luck, if this fails call your Internet provider they will walk you thru it.

turn everything off and take cable btween modem and pc out. leave for 5mins then reconnect and reboot.

type in cmd
in the black box that appears type ipconfig/flushdns
