Don't say LimeWire because it gave me a virus on my old computer -- which I had to get rid of.



I have a new laptop, but I need a good place to download music -- for free -- that has better virus protection than LimeWire. I heard that some things might have to do with your connection -- in which I have DSL. Soo, can anyone help me?

Id like to partition my hard drive, one half Ubuntu stuff, and the other half Windows XP stuff. When I start my computer, id like to choose between Ubuntu and Windows. How would I go about doing this?

If I install windows XP can I reinstall it on the same computer without having to buy another copy? Also If I buy another computer can I install it on that computer with out buying another copy? If I switch out parts of the computer (motherboard, hard drive, etc.) what are the limits on that?

i was given it because it had crashed and they just bought a new one! when i tried to lod xp onto it again the cd drive had gone so i fitted a new one out of a old computer and i've managed to get windows on it! But the only prob is that i don't have any drivers for it... i need, graphics card, sound card, usb. drivers.

there is alos a tv tuner card and firewire card inside which i believe have been added as extra's but any ideas for any drivers would be brill!

I have an old computer I found in the closit, since I put windows ME on it, I am using it alot lately for a couple of my older games such as Diablo 2, or Starcraft. but anyways, I saw the requirements for Windows XP Home and it said 64MB but 128 MB is recommended. How well will this run, the Mhz on this thing is 553MHz.

...installed their copy of XP on MY machine, just to check the cd was fine. It installed perfectly and passed validation.

Now, I've got the other one working,and I installed their cd on their machine successfully.

However, it does not pass validation, and so they will not be happy in the morning when I return their machine.

What can I do? I'm aware that MS takes hard disk info as well as some other info when validating, but the hard disk has remained the same throughout the testing.

Where do I go next with this?

BTW, MY machine is running MY copy of windows and no s/w pirarcy has taken place.

I am getting ready for college and the question of which laptop to purchase has been driving me crazy. I have always been a PC person and I was going to buy a Sony Vaio, but my school offers a disount and a free nano when you purchase a MAC pro. But thne I hear taht the MAC can operat ewith windows Vsita , so my weustion is will it work with a mac and vista just like any regular PC? All my progarms can still be windows based programs and i WONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT OS ? By buying a mac with vista would itbe liek buying what any PC?

I need a new Hard Drive, so I need a new operating system. I was planing on Ubuntu because it's free. Could all my exsting applications run on it like Windows Media Player? And when you donload something thats for windows could Ubuntu run it?Is it like window's functionally or mac's limited software runability? My computer is slow to boot up and sometimes doesn't boot at all. It will freeze before the OS even loads. If it does boot up, it will freeze on simple tasks like surfing the internet. I'm running windows XP. I've had this computer for almost two years and this problem came out of nowhere. I think it is a software error.

I recently bought this dvd drive but it won't write dvds. Under My Computer when I insert a DVD-R or DVD+R it marks it as a cd drive, But when there are no dvds in the drive it marks it as DVD-RW drive. Does this mean that I need to use a DVD-/+ RW disk? What confuse me is that I have this DVD+R disk that I have written a while ago and it reads it fine. I already updated the firmware and I went to each program under Nero and updated it as well. I am considering buying an Apple laptop since it's very entertainment-y, like with movie makers and such. I know about Bootcamp to help with Windows programs...but is it still not worth it?
