My Windows Media Player doesn't play avi format videos. Is there another one i can download that plays them, or is there an add-on i need to download? Thank you.

windows media player should, that's what I play my .avi files on. It could be that you are just missing a codec to get it to play correctly.

vlc media player will work with .avi, but you still could be missing a codec.

download gspot and see what codec you are missing, and then google it to download. With the right codec, windows media player should work.

While in Windows Media Player, go to Tools - Options, and then go to the file types tab. Then, make sure you have the AVI file type selected, and then click ok to save your changes.

VLC is another option. Like everyone's already said, it will play just about anything. I'll also recommend K-Lite Codec pack. It's just as good, if not better than VLC, IMO.

itunes plays avi
Windows media player does too, but you need to download the codecs. just google avi codecs and you should come across some free codec downloads. VLC media player plays just about everything. It also plays videos.

Try getting the VLC Media Player: it plays practically every video format out there and it's FREE.

One of the recent programs you installed had the correct codecs to play avi and you will probably manage divx now as well!

You probably just need the codec. .avi files are usually divx/xvid so you can get the xvid codecs from http://www.xvid.org This will cover both xvid and divx and you'll be able to watch the video with windows media player.
