You could visit schools and unversities and ask the tech or coordonator in the science or info dept for an old computer. Usually they either give them, or they destroy them.

Rogers Cable company has a new portable cruising-speed modem in Canada and it costs me 20bucks a month for 10 gigas bandwidth. I just stay 10 feet away from the modem cause it's a radioactive head you know.

That being said I think that a pentium II with windows 2000 or XP is well enough for Internet. I was on win98 until february 2007. Now I'm on XP with a PIII. That dual core processor is only an option if you want to play the newest and most (technically) impressive games, like Playboy Mansion and that BMX stunt race with every racer naked on her bike. To chat with cool people, you only need a Pentium 100 :D

Besides, most PC Games are still immoral and require loads of trash to be pre installed on your hard drive, for instance Flash player, OpenGL and DirectX. That's detrimental to anyone's sanity and should be avoided. Just buy a XBox and download emulators for the older games which you already own, and use your low end computer for research, work, agendas and communication.

It depends on what you are using it for. I suggest a home/ office PC. Stay away from Emachines and Lenovo. Make sure you get one with a dual core proccessor. An AMD Atholon DUAL CORE X2 is a good choice. The Atholon 64 is not dual core btw. Vista still has support issues, but you'll be lucky to find a good XP pc. Dell and HP are both ok. You can still get dial up, but I suggest DSL or Cable internet. The company will send you the equipment and help set it up for you.

Sign Up with an Internet Service Provider (Not AOL)
and get yourself an account. I'm paying fourty Bucks
a month for High Speed DSL with AT&T. which is not
bad. just tell them you don't work when you give them
your credit card info.
