I have zone alarm security suite and am reasonably happy with it. I am pretty good at configuring it now for use with my kids games.Warcraft etc need ports open and some constant tweaking seems needed, esp for hosting. My subscription to Zone alarm is about to end and I do not really want to learn a new program. It has been recommended that I ditch it and use a combo of free software [Zone alarm free firewall, spybot, AVG, adaware] which I would readily do but I fear that there will be far less configuration allowed with Zone alarm free and therefore game play will be badly affected.

I'm borrowing a friend's lap top, an hp pavillion with h/k speakers built in. Nice but hmmm...no sound but the one 'error' beep, for everything including incoming e.mail.

Under settings/control panel/sound + audio devices, it confirms 'no audio device', (wha? the h/k speakers are fake?).

Can I fix this? Is some driver somewhere not switched on? Where? What?

I am going to buy a second harddrive for my computer and i was wonderign a couple things. 1)I've heard so much talk about Linux is better than Windows. Why? give me reasons not just your onesided opinions. 2)What type of Linux is available for download? which one would be good for a first time Linux user? 3)I'm planning on installing the Linux OS on the second harddrive while keeping the original as XP. Is this possible? Will most of my programs/applications still work if I try to open them from the Linux desktop? I have a wireless connection. Will I have to reinstall everythign again? Any advice and info, relevent to the questions, will be much appreciated and welcomed.

I have the sound max 4xl software for my soundcard. I hooked up a y cable to it so i can play it on my stereo but only comes out of one speaker. Theres nothing wrong with the speaker or stereo either. I also tried using headphones and again only one speaker plays.Does anyone know what i can do to to enable both speakers to play?
