For a laptop, I would suggest Bit Defender 9.0 - Had that program myself and never had an issue with any viruses or malware of any kind. You can download a free version of this program as well....just Google it. The thing I liked most about this program is most anti-virus programs just "Quarantine" a virus when it is found....but Bit Defender actually locates the Virus, and re-programs it so it can no longer be harmful to the computer. Once the infected file is located and reprogrammed, it is deleted...NOT Quarantined. Anyway, hope this helps.....Good Luck!

Personally, I use the AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AOL AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources.

Free to anyone, AOL member or not.

Good luck.

Norton is usually installed. use the trial until it expires. then you can buy any after market brand that will work decently. The best way to protect your new laptop is to make sure that all the windows updates are ran weekly in addition to virus definiation updates. I prefer Mcafee..
