Hey guys,
I have got a question. I have a computer, for which I just purchased a new SATA 160 gb hard drive. Now I have 2 hard drive sticking right next to each to each other, since I don't have any other space to put the new hard drive in. Anyways, it is a Western Digital WD1600JS model.
I bought the drive to save it as a backup, so that in case my other master hard drive goes out, I will have the backup of my things.
Anyways, let me get to my point. Ok, I switched on the PC went to Everest and it showed that the new SATA HD is about 68C. I was blown away by that reading, I felt the drive and it was a little warm. I downloaded another temperature reader and it stated the same. I took the drive back and I got another one of the same model. Switched it on and the same, it is getting to 68C although the book says that normal operations are at aroun 55C. I called in for their customer support and they said to do a drive analysis, I did it and it took almost 3 hours, and the analysis showed no problems.
I opened the side of the PC and put my room fan towards it and it cooled the drive back to 40C.
Now my old regular IDE drive is at 40C, while my new SATA drive is at 68C.
So I don't know if you guys could help me out on this, but what I was thinking to do is go and get a hole made on the side panel of the case, buy a new 120mm Fan and let it blow the air in. The Fan that is in the back, I will turn it around so that it would blow the hot air out.

Now my question is that I want to get a professional to make a good looking hole to put the fan on, but I don't know where. Do you have any suggestion about any shops that I could go to and ask them to make the hole.

Other than that, do you guys think that this is OK to have a SATA HD to be at 68C while the other one is at 40C?

Please consider my question about the shop to take it to first and then advice me something on this new HD.

got suspicions that someone is messing about with my laptop when I not at home...I know there is a way to check activity on a laptop or PC but I do not know how to do it...any advice will be well appreciated, as I have to get to the bottom of this

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 12500, Model #PPO2L

Both fans in the back stopped turning and a "fan error message" appeared on the screen.

I wouldn't think the PSU is out if the screen is able to display a message.

Is this an easy or difficult job? I am handy with tools....and love to work on computers; but I've never worked on a notebook.

This is my granddaughter's notebook so I don't have it to diagnose.

Any idea what it would cost to have repaired? What about if I did it?

I live in upstate NY. TW just bought out the ONLY competition within 100 miles of us for broadband cable internet and tv, Adelphia. They doubled the prices on all the services.

Whats worse is I cant get verizon DLS where I am anymore, because 'we're too far away from the central office'.

Isnt anyone else sick of getting butt raped by industrial pirate companies like this? Why dont people band together and boycott... or complain or SOMETHING.

Its just so wrong on so many levels. 56 dollars a month for standard cable. WTF?

Sat. tv isnt an option for where we were. Too many mountains and we're in the valley.... its like that for a majority of people around here.

eBay and Paypal are pretty useless when it comes to protecting buyers and sellers. eBay and Paypal are more concerned with protecting their own interests than those of their users. They offer a ridiculously limited window of time to take any action.

So what do I do if I find out a year later that an item I paid $250 for is a fake and the seller won't refund my money? Is this something I should take to the police? What is my best option?

Hello all. I live in a studio style apartment outside of my mother-in-law's house with my girlfriend. The apartment is in the back of a tool shop. When I am in their house my internet speed is up to 56 Mbps, however, when I am outside in our apartment, the speed drops dramatically to 2 sometimes 5 Mbps. We have wireless DSL and we do not have a wireless router hooked up, it is a wireless modem. However, I do have a brand new wireless ROUTER that I can hook up if that will somehow make the signal better. I don't really have the money to spend on any type of repeaters, signal boosters, etc. and the homemade antennas seem too complicated for me. Could someone break down how I could increase my speed up even just a little bit to be able to surf faster. Other details: Shop is apprx. 30 yards from house, tin roof. My girlfriend's notebook gives a blank screen at startup even though the hardware and power supply seem to be in working order. After searching here and a few other troubleshooting forums, it appears as though reseating the RAM might help.

Are there any potential hazards to this? Any chance for data loss (we'll back up files anyway)? I'd much appreciate any advice offered.
