Here's the deal. TW seems free to do what they want in your community, but they are not. There is federal legislation that requires adequate competition in a region for cable TV. If there isn't adequate competition, the company cannot charge any higher to you than they charge to consumers in a location with many options (such as NYC). If you really feel they are in breach of the monopoly laws, you should contact your local politicians and complain.

Well, for one thing, Adelphia was bankrupt because it was robbed by its owners and its assets were sold to pay off some of its debts. Time Warner didnt purchase the whole thing. Secondly, complain to your local politicians. They grant "franchise" rights to an exclusive cable provider in your area. In exchange, the cable company pays your local community a certain amount of dollars. Thus, your local politicans create the monopoly willingly, and make it impossible for anyone else to compete.
I lived in a town where the town ended up building its own competing cable/internet/phone service. Its price was way less, and Time Warner had to drop their price significantly to have a chance. That town now has the lowest rates in my entire state (Ohio). Those were some politicans that had the right interests at heart- the people's.

Broadband National has some of the best deals on high speed Internet. Right now they are offering Comcast for only $19.99 a month for the first 6 months. At the time of this review the offer also includes: 100.00 Cash Back* FREE Cable Modem* FREE Wireless Router* I've known people who have signed up for Comcast Internet through Broadband National, customer service is great. Unlike other companies I have dealt with if you have a problem with your service Comcast will send someone out to fix it.

I feel you on this one. We have several cable companies here in Indiana, but they all have their own territories and you are stuck with whatever one services the area you live in. For us it is Time Warner. We pay $115 a month for digital cable and internet access. We have the DVR Box and the Basic Hi Def package, I think those two together are about $12. Seems to me if you can't choose your provider it is a monopoly, but I guess since we could get satellite there is ample competition.

Haha - Time Warner took over our cable too. I live in So. Cali where we also had adelphia and now we have Time Warner. Although, I think Verizon is starting to offer cable tv now, which gives them a little competition.

When you elect a pro business, anti-regulation government this is what you get: a bunch of monopolies with no oversite. We're supposed to work at Walmart and like it.
This is not supply and demand -- it's what the buyer will bear.

I easily have abandoned television altogether. If i opt for the files, i bypass on the internet. I favor to make my personal selections in what I watch; hence, i take advantage of an internet action picture condo source. Gatekeepers opt for what's optimum to be watched on television together with cable networks and make us pay for that junk. promote off CABLE completely!!!
