Computers & Internet - 10 August 2006

They seem very expensive...but I've heard great things about them. I don't know anything about computers, which one is a good one for basic computer needs with "media" capabilities such as pictures, movie making/dvd burning for my home videos, alittle music etc?

is it true that the internet works slower at different times of the day when different people in the worls are logging onto the internet, like sometimes at midday my computer is really slow... or is that just me... sorry, it's a stupid question and it's just come into my head!!

I have an Intel Pro Wireless wifi card and a Belkin USB wifi stick, I connect to the internet by the Belkin stick and a BIG antenna but need to convert the Intel into an access point so I can connect my PSP to the internet or use a VNC server. The reason is that without the antenna, the signal I use to connect to the Internet can't be received, so any other devices don't receive the signal, that's why I want the other cart to work as an access point repeating the signal. I've searched around but found no software to do this, at least with my Intel card. The lapto is a Dell 630m.

So i bought my first computer microphone and i connected it to my speakers and i could talk and everything but or example when i use windows movie maker and i press record the time starts going and then i press stop nd when i replay it i can't hear nothing, and when i wanna use it to talk the computer wont detect it. what should i do? is there something i had to do?

after the moitor is on for awhile it goes dark and then comes back to normal. doesn't happen alot but still it does happen.

i got a nvidia ge-force mx440 128mb agp card the other day for £7 froma computer shop,its a x4/x2 card and i put it on a x2 agp slot to try it
drivers installed no problem,but when testing it in dxdiag the direct x cube was cloudy and the image flickered,it alsohad spots on the cibe where the image wasnt rendering properly
on the whole the card didnt feel right,i did everything right,uninstalled old drivers,rebooted before i installed new drivers,i personally think the card is fualty but at £7 i cant take it back,is there any more diagnostics you can reccomend to try to find out whats wrong with it
finally,i am using a radeon 9250(128mb) at the moment,its a very reliable card,and this card is a g/force 4 mx(128mb),which is the better,of the two
also i have noticed on the ge-force box it says mx 440 se tv sdr 128mb agp,what drivers does this card use,as i am wondering if its a different driver as it says "tv"in the name

i've had a laptop for a few years, dropped it a few times, finally most parts decided to fail (network card/pcmcia slot/usbslot/floppy/cdrom drive/battery doesn't work anymore). my friend decided to tear it open to have a side project, but i still need the files on the hard drive, how can i get the files from my hard drive if it won't turn on, where can i go, or what kind of device should i buy?

I dropped it onto the a/c adapter over a year ago and it smashed into the connection. It was under warranty and Best Buy SUPPOSEDLY fixed it. Now the adapter does not fit snuggly into the connection (very loose) and it will not charge the battery. Is is worth it to see if a new a/c adapter will work or should we just get a new battery, get our files off and call it a loss????

I am using PHP, MySQL, javascript and AJAX for my new website. My server is in US but I live in london. Now i have like a sticky note thing on my website using ajax. It records the date and time when it was created or modified. Everytime it is modified or created new, the timestamp records the US time but i need the UK time on it. Is it possible, if so how?

i recently had norton anti spyware 2005, i downloaded spycatcher express and ran it. it found 3 trojans after norton said there was none. at the moment i got ad aware se, spy bot, zonealarm firewall and ez trust antivirus any other suggestions?
