I dropped it onto the a/c adapter over a year ago and it smashed into the connection. It was under warranty and Best Buy SUPPOSEDLY fixed it. Now the adapter does not fit snuggly into the connection (very loose) and it will not charge the battery. Is is worth it to see if a new a/c adapter will work or should we just get a new battery, get our files off and call it a loss????

Buy the adapter
Save the receipt
If it does not work, return for refund
If it does work, you have a laptop for a reasonable price
(Adaptor is going to be cheaper than a battery - which usually come UNCHARGED so you couldn't use it anyways without an adaptor to charge it)

Well like u already said.....""Now the adapter does not fit snuggly into the connection (very loose) and it will not charge the battery""....this mean for me that u have no warranty in this case .
So if you buy another a/c adapter there is a small chance to still have problem coze if laptop side conector is damaged the new a/c adapter conector will not plug properly into laptop connector and the battery will not charge at all. There is also a chance to be battery fault coze like u said.....""I dropped it onto the a/c adapter over a year ago ""......and 1 year is a long time for a laptop battery .Actually most companies offer only 1 year waranty to the laptop batteries. If you wanna know more.....
Feel free to contact me on yahoo messenger for more details.

You might try to use another adaptor and see it it works if not it more likely be your laptop connector at fault. I would try to wriggle the connection until it works then charge the battery if its still able to charge then I would try to put the information on the laptop in a backup storage or disk oreven the thumb drive which has the capability to store up to 2 gb. I can't tell what the extent of the damage is but if it not as bad you could have the connector replaced or just buy another laptop.

Find a "test" laptop and see if the AC Adaptor charges the battery.

If the AC Adaptor doesn't work, get a new AC Adaptor.

If the AC Adaptor does work, you may need to replace the motherboard because the connection on the laptop has failed.

First make useful the subject is with the charger. Inspirions are properly established for having charger jack issues. of direction, Dell won't sell alternative jacks, yet insists the only thank you to repair is to purchase a sparkling motherboard. And if that isn't adequate to concern approximately, you are able to concern approximately your laptop catching on hearth and burning down your dwelling house, because of the inferior batteries thay offered from Sony.
