Picture this: you're doing a school assingment, and you go to wikipedia to consult some facts - for instance, the name of the current Swedish King. Once you start looking for the info, you see some interesting link, and then another, and then you get out of wikipedia... After two hours or more, you realize you ended up in a website that has nothing to do with your original search...

Does this happen to anybody else?

While installing Win2000 Professional, I noticed it was deleting my Win98 files. I have a Win98 Boot disk - would any of this help? Also, I can't located where the Win2000 files are located. It's not located nowhere on C:\Windows. I think I mistakenly installed on DOS somewhere.

I recall as I was installing it paused and asked a question regarding boot sector - Click C to continue, I forgot the second option, and the 3rd option was E for exclude. I clicked on E to exclude. I got scared when I saw those words boot sector so that's why I clicked on E for exclude. In addition, as it was completing installation, I noticed at the bottom of the screen - there was black text - which I think has something to do with DOS. I've never seen as you're installing in Windows - black text at the bottom of the screen as it was installing. Maybe this is something new since I am new to Win2000 and that's what it is supposed to do. Please help if you can.

I play a popular online game alot, and if you join too many games in too fast of a time period you'll get an IP ban from the game server for a while.

I downloaded a program called SMAC that spoofs your MAC address (software side) and will randomly assign a new one. I'm curious as to how this plays at IP address assignment. Sometimes I get a null IP address.

I have Verizon DSL w/ a wireless westell modem. I have a Mac (OS 9) and Windows hooked up to the wireless modem for Internet.

I recently upgraded from a wired modem to the wireless one. When I had the wired modem, everything worked great on both computers: web, email, and AOL IM.

Since I upgraded to the new modem, AOL Instant Messenger will not work on either computer. It keeps saying, "Searching for service." Web and e-mal work fine on both.

Verizon technical support refuses to help, saying they don't support AOL IM. Obviouslly it worked before on both of these computers. My mother has the same service and the same modem-- aol im works fine for her.

Side note: My FTP program has not worked since I got the new modem also. It also says, "searching for files." I'm not as worried about that program as I am the AOL IM.

How can I make AOL IM work? I appreciate any help. And yes, I always come back to read what people have posted. Thanks for any help.
