About two days ago, the volume on my laptop dropped down to where I can barely hear it now. I had not installed any new hardware or software or played with the volume controls. I checked the volume controls in Accessories and in Windows Media Player to make sure they were maxed and not muted - they are maxed and not muted (again, I can hear sound, but only if I put my ear to the speaker, which is not the way it was before). I tried updating the sound card drivers and got a message that the drivers could not be updated any further. This exact problem happened on my desktop a while back and I never figured out what caused it, but I fixed it by installing AC3 Filter. My laptop is brand new though, and I don't want to just "fix" the problem without knowing what started it. Does anybody know what can cause this to happen? By the way, My desktop was XP Pro and my laptop is XP Media Center.
