I dont use an ipod and from what I hear they aint worth a crap! I understand they have their own music file format so if you want to load music from someone elses computer you need ipod software installed on it. If you have an op sys older than windows 2000 you cant even run ipod software! these two problems alone steered me away from ipod! I went out and bought me a good old creative muvo. Lot cheaper too!

Yes, you can. But I think the answer you are looking for is no, not directly. If you try to sync your iPod with someone else's computer, it will attempt to transfer all the songs from their computer and wipe the songs that are currently on your iPod. So, you have two options, manually updating it from their computer or putting the songs you want on a flash drive, taking them back to your computer, copying them into your iTunes Music folder, put the songs in iTunes and then update your iPod from your computer. This of course, will not work with songs purchased from the iTunes music store because you will not have permission to play the files or transfer them to your iPod.

Bring the "legally acquired" songs to your computer via some other means...then import them!
