The closest I've been was as a wiper and OS on deep sea ships, but never even been on the lakes yet. Will I be on deck most of the time docking and standing gangway watches, or messing about in the engine room? Are steel toed shoes required at all times while working on American Steamship boats? How's the food? Do they have an exercise room? Heading out tomorrow evening.

Showers for 5,000 people, laundry, cooking, that adds up pretty quick. How big of a tank do they carry? And how often does it have to be filled?

My sister is a beginner sailor. (She doesn't own a boat). She races with all men. I don't know much about sailing, but I want to buy her a unique gift. What are some ideas?

Thanks, sailors!

I'm hoping that someone on here has some gift ideas for my parents. They've been boating recreationally for their entire lives, but next summer they're taking the big plunge and buying a boat to live on with their two dogs. They'll mostly be living on the coasts and waterways in country for the first year or two. They're set for a lot of stuff (lifejackets, etc), but I'd appreciate any ideas on something to get them that they wouldn't have on the small boat. Or any feedback on a book that someone has personally read and would prepare them for the new lifestyle.

I had previously asked questions about my 93 Johnson 30hp outboard. It was having ignition problems where it would run fine then when it would warm up it would cut back to 1800 rpm and below. Well turns out it was a wire that was worn through and finally broke. So the shop installed a new CDI system and I took it out, it ran good. When I got back to the ramp to load the boat it died and would not start. Today after inspecting the wire block had vibrated loose and one of the studs had come completly out causing the block to "breath". I replaced the stud and tightened the others but the motor still wont start. It has fuel, fire and will hit enough to kick the starter out but will not run. Any ideas?
