Our Honda 15XL (1996) requires little in the way of decomissioning maintenance. We use it exclusively in salt water so the first thing we do is flush with fresh water using the "earmuffs". Then disconnect the fuel line and let idle until it quits to completely drain the fuel. The motor cooling water self-drains as soon as the motor is pulled from the water supply, so that's not an issue. Drain and replace engine oil (one litre) AND gear oil (250ml). Unscrew BOTH gear oil drains and be sure to squirt the gear oil into the BOTTOM filler hole until it runs out the top one. Remove the spark plugs and check for wear, damage etc and replace or clean and regap as necessary. While the plugs are out, don't be shy with the fogging oil and pull the start cord once or twice (don't forget to pull the kill switch lanyard!) to ensure the cylinder walls are coated. Replace spark plugs. Lubricate throttle linkage, Armor-all the plastic and rubber components (Including fuel line and primer bulb) and grease the pivot points. Remove propeller and grease the prop shaft, Replace prop and do NOT reuse the cotter pin!. Wipe motor with a cloth moistened with CLEAN motor oil and wax the motor bonnet.

We go down to the boat about once a month and give the pull cord a yank or two to further prevent piston rings from sticking to the cylinder walls.

NOW you're done!

Good Luck
