I saw an history channel "Raise the Alabama." They were all fixated on the cannon, etc., but not one word about the steam engine. I checked answers.com, wiki, naval history, etc. All they have in the specification section is "Steam Engine." Does anyone have a link or know what the ship's power plant specs were? Who was the manufacturer? What pressures did it run? Was it compound? How many cylinders? Throttled or automatic cutoff? Did it use a condenser?

Can anyone recommend somewhere that we can have our boat engine serviced preferably in the Southampton area, and roughly how much it costs?

My father served on it between the years of 1941 and 1944 so I am interested in learning about it's history and finding a picture as I am doing a bio of my fathers life as a Merchant Marine.

Bascially the above - why use these colours? Do these wave lengths travel further or is it just historic? If its just historic, why isnt it changed to make allowances for those who are red/green colour blind?

This is our project in Physics. We are told to search for an example of how to make an improvised steamboat and create it. But I can't find anything in the sites that I went to. These are yahoo.com, google.com, msn.com, investigatoryproject.com, science.com, and physics.com. If you have an idea on making an improvised steamboat or if you know any site where I can find an example, please kindly help me. Thanks!
