Bought a I/O 89 Bayline Capri that has gasoline/oil mix in it from last summer. Should I drain it out, or run it and risk clogging the carbeurator

mix does not keep more than 2 months--take the mix out of the tank--if it is a disposable tank, buy a new one. if it is built in, call a fuel polishing company--they are listed in yor marine guide gotten at the boat show every year, and given away at the place you buy your boat parts.there is not any additive that refreshes mix. if there is not much left, you can add more gas--use premium for this, and mix the oil as per your engine, and use that.but not if more than 1-2 gallons --use equal or more amount of gas as contained in yur tank. it is best to have it polished.

I drain it every year, and use it in the lawn mowers, snow throwers, etc., trying to keep fuel fresh with stabilizer is second best (and not good in my view), ALWAYS START WITH FRESH FUEL ! old fuel tends to varnish, and fall apart after 30 days, use a carbon guard fuel additive, fuel is at the worst it's EVER been, the carbon guard is cheap insurance, it keeps everything from getting "Sticky", this prevents "Ring Failure", the most common type of internal outboard engine problem due to carbon build up on the piston.

If you only have a small amount of gas in tank 1/4 or so you can use a fuel stablizer sold at parts stores. I use it in my Chris-caft all the time during winter and never had a problem in the spring.

I wouldnt risk it, the down side is too expensive.

Old gas has too much water in it, one can use things such as STP to improve the fuel.

But since you dont know the histroy of this fuel, dont risk it, is worth the effort to drain it.

You can buy an additive that will put the gas back to its original octane .I buy this every spring for my lawn mower gas that sits in the shed over long cold Canadian winters .You can get it at a Wal Mart or hardware store.
