in general , marine engines have different exhaust manifolds, different ignition advance curves , hard and or sodium filled valves , and castings for different accessories , also some turned backwards compared to cars , so check that and use an automotive camshaft if that is your case.

Answer 1 is correct. In addition, marine engines use modified distributors, alternators, and starters that have screened vents which won't allow an arc to set off an explosion if fuel vapors are present.
As far as the main stuff like crank, pistons, block, nothing is different.

hay, also marine engines have 4 bolt mains, as compared to 2 bolt mains, all in all you will find that a marine engine is heavy duty in comparison to regular automotive equipment a lot like comparing a stock engine to a racing engine and yes it is true that specific components are screened to help prevent an explosion, all gasoline engine powered inboards must have an exhaust fan to evacuate volatile fumes from engine compartments before starting to reduce the possibility or a disastrous miss hap:)
